“The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes” book review

Cassandra Clare - Mortal Instruments; City of Ashes (#2) [nog lezen]

Last year, I had already read the first one and I completely forgot I was in possession of the next to in the series, until recently. I picked up book two of “The Mortal Instruments” series and read it in within two days. I was completely sucked in and I couldn’t stop reading.

Now, onto the more important part of the review. I love the supernatural beings. I love vampires, werewolves, and any other creature that is not humanly possible. And above all, I especially love New York City, and this book has all of that. I was so sucked into the book, I would stay up reading it until the little rays of sunlight peeked over the horizon. My whole sleeping schedule was rearranged because of these books.

There are a few series of books about a girl who is thrown into a supernatural lifestyle that she is not ready for and this series certainly does fall under that category, but the way she reacts and acts makes a difference. I think that’s what really sold me to this series. Clary (the main character) is ready to have her mom back from out of the coma, that she will fight and stubbornly make her own decisions (I know, I know sounds cliché, but what can I say? It’s a guilty pleasure).

It’s not the most clever of books or the best written, but it does keep you entertained. And is that so much to ask for?
