“The Lion and The Rose” Game of Thrones Season Four Episode Two

Spoiler:

HOLY CRAP! This episode was like poetry. George Martin (the author of the series) wrote this episode, the witty banter made me feel like I was on cloud nine, and the long-awaited death of a character was the cherry on top of the sunday.

I think I speak for many people when I say that Ramsay is a grade a jerk. I feel bad for Theon. Although I have to say, I did not like Theon the first two seasons, but now that he is being punished way more than he deserves, I just want to take him away from Ramsay and give him back to his family.

I was so glad to see Bran and the Reed siblings again. Their storyline is always a breath of fresh air. They have such a promising and unadulterated future ahead of them. It’s a nice break from the dark and shadowed story lines of the other characters.

Now, for the main event. This episode proved a perfect representation of Joffrey’s childish and hotheaded. He managed to piss everyone off and make a fool out of himself. Even when he was coughing and slowly dying, he managed to frame the wrong person. He had no redeeming qualities.

The witty banter for this episode was amazing. Especially the little conversation Ser Loras and Jaime have. When Jaime said that Ser Loras doesn’t have to worry, because he won’t have to marry Cersei and Ser Loras said neither will he [Jaime]. My mouth dropped when Ser Loras said that.

And then when Cersei and Brienne had their conversation and Cersei accused Brienne of being in love with Jaime. Brienne was like, oh my gosh, I do. The more-than-friends relationship between Brienne and Jaime felt a little more official because Martin wrote it.

The friction between Cersei and Brienne was amazing in this episode, because Brienne is everything Cersei wishes she could be, but isn’t. Cersei is threatened by Brienne and George Martin wrote it beautifully in the script as well as the two actresses and their portrayal of the characters.

Lastly, Jack Gleeson who portrays Joffrey did an excellent job in his death scene. Actually, he did a great job playing Joffrey, period. An actor that can make love to hate an already hated character is talented. I’m just sad he’s retiring from acting. Hopefully he will pick it up again later on in his life.

There are so many things I wish I could elaborate more on, such as the suggested Queen of Thorns poisoning Joffrey, what will be made of (now) Queen Margarey, and the reaction Theon had when he heard Robb was killed. This episode was nothing short of beautiful (especially the cameo of Sigur Ros). I live tweeted the episode, so if you want to read my thoughts from the episode, go check out my twitter. My handle is essiedarcy.

Until next episode.
